Librarian Review of Crafting with Nature
The Crafting With Nature series introduces natural materials and shows how to transform them into a variety of amazing crafts. Each book opens with an introduction to the natural product with specific examples and tips for nature safety. The titles showcase eight different crafts that the reader can make from simple to more complex. The pressed flower bookmarks in Flower Crafts would require some careful and delicate steps but would produce some gorgeous bookmarks. The leaf roses in Leaf Crafts would be a perfect craft to pair with some of the flower or vase crafts. Readers can learn about stone cairns, piles of stones used as landmarks, and how to create their own in Stone Crafts. Colored sand drip art is guaranteed to be a hit for any young crafter as they learn about liquid’s viscosity from Sand Crafts. Readers will enjoy learning about popular birds and how to create a pine cone bird feeder in Seed Crafts. In Stick Crafts, readers can discover how God’s eyes (originally from Mexico’s Huichol people) became popular and then create their own. The bright graphics and examples highlight the crafts, products, and materials needed to make the amazing crafts. Each craft includes captivating facts and side notes involving the subject, history, or tidbit about the materials or craft that will make each craft an interesting hands-on experience for the reader. Some of the crafts seem a bit difficult, and an adult supervision label might be beneficial in the books. Each title also includes a glossary to help the readers understand and retain the information and new words they may learn. This series would be a great addition to any library and for introducing new crafts and lessons from the natural world.
