Educator Review of A Pet What?!

In this series, the reader learns about specific animals that families have as pets. This series is very engaging to readers as the pets featured in these books are unusual pets for most families (i.e. ferret, mini pig, mini horse, sugar glider, etc.). These books give great details about the specific animal such as the life span, food the animal eats, length of animal, and weight of each animal. The books also has a photograph with labels of each animal’s home and important needs for the animal within the home. Within the book are photographs of the pet’s needed supplies so that readers know what is needed to properly care for the specific pet. One of the most interesting features of these books is the Care Duties Checklists for each pet. These checklists include daily, weekly, monthly, and ‘as needed’ checklists for pet owners to consider before taking a new pet home. These non-fiction books include numerous non-fiction text features to support the reader in understanding the important facts in the book. Some non-fiction text features included in each book are engaging photographs, a table of contents, labels, headings, bold-faced words, diagrams, a glossary, and an index. The photographs of the animals are engaging to readers of all ages. These books explain the responsibilities of having a pet and are perfect for anyone considering having a pet!
